LOBO reaches for the stars

With sensational installations in no less than three large German planetariums, LOBO introduces the new generation of the laser and multimedia workstation LACON-5 to the market.

Even before the first advertisements were placed and press releases published, LOBO experienced a run on the LACON-5 workstation which has been recently launched
on the market.

General Manager of LOBO, Mr. Lothar Bopp: "The technical concept seems to be right, the operation of the system convincing and, moreover, the difference to other systems is obvious even to the average spectator ."

LACON-5 is a completely new developed workstation which enables easy and efficient creation of laser and multimedia slide shows of previously unattainable quality. The system is characterized by a completely modularized hardware concept with almost unlimited extensibilities, a digital data control developed in co-operation with the European Union as well as an open software solution which can be operated intuitively. The absolute sensation is the innovative "Scanline" laser video technique which allows for the first time not only to generate classic laser graphics and three-dimensional beam effects, but also the display of brilliant, video-like images in unsurpassed resolution with one and the same projector.

Right from the start, LOBO's new flagship was able to establish itself as the new standard in three major planetariums in Germany: in the Carl Zeiss Planetarium in Stuttgart, LACON-5 controls a total of four projectors supplied via glass fiber optics and the planetarium in the "Forum am Deutschen Museum" in Munich uses a total of six projectors, with two additional pneumatically lowerable laser projection robots.

When the Munich star theater opened its doors exactly 10 years ago with its first LOBO laser system, they entered a completely new territory with the application of laser in edutainment shows. Without doubt, there is no second planetarium on this earth which offers such sophisticated technical possibilities in the area of laser . Laser is and always has been a firm part of many edutainment shows and, of course, in many independent laser programs which always prove to be publics' favourite. After the installation of LACON-5 the trend towards laser has even increased substantially: The official Queen laser show "Heaven", which has been proclaimed as the "most successful laser show in the world" by the planetarium itself, broke every record. For months the dome was sold out right to the last seat. And this success will probably be
continued with the laser show "Genesis" which will be presented on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the planetarium.

The planetarium in Hamburg, recently celebrating their re-opening under the leadership of Thomas W. Kraupe after it has been completely reconstructed, also relies on LOBO's LACON-5 technology. Here a technique named "TriDome" for dome filling projection of three-dimensional laser shows, specifically developed for the LACON-5 platform, celebrates its premiere. This technique operates as an extension to a new full-dome video projection system. The system consists of three laser projectors which are mounted at an angle of 120° at the horizon of the dome. With the application of a sophisticated real-time geometric correction and a new kind of digital projectors, this method is presently the only technical solution which offers the necessary precision for overlaying pictures of the star projectors as well as the full-dome video projection systems.

In addition to that, the same projectors are in the position to generate impressive three-dimensional beam spectacles which spirit the spectators away into a world created by laser light that seems to be just within reach . With the permanent employment of an experienced laser show programmer it is obvious that in Hamburg one can expect new highlights with the application of laser in the high-tech star theater in the near future.
