Inauguration of the Hemispheric, Valencia
LOBO provides a spectacular multimedia opening of the "Hemispheric" – the first building of Europe's largest cultural and leisure centre, the Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias in Valencia. The building, designed by star architect Santiago Calatrava and located in the middle of the "City of Arts and Sciences", achieves the effect of a gigantic human eye by reflecting on a 24,000m² water surface. The 100 m long oval roof houses a planetarium with an IMAX cinema. On 16 April 1998, several television stations are live as Spain's Prime Minister presses the red button and brings the gigantic eye to life. A bundle of laser beams shoots up into the sky – the pupil is transformed by video and laser projection into a globe that begins its descent on Valencia, ushering in a gigantic spectacle. The technical effort is equally immense: a LOBO laser truck as well as additional laser projectors within the water surface, several high-performance video projectors, 18 fog generators, 600 kW of light, 7 tons of high-altitude fireworks, and a complete classical orchestra all contribute to this experience.
