Dreams of light
A visit at LOBO, global market leader in the show laser industry
The theory: “Light attracts people”. The proof: The rush of visitors on 17 November 1999. At the invitation of the WJ Work Group for Company Management to LOBO electronic GmbH in Aalen, more than 70 guests had followed the green laser beam, projected as a glowing signpost above Aalen. In the new, architecturally impressive company building, we were greeted by our member Lothar Bopp and introduced to the company’s fields of activity. In the 18 years since its foundation, the young company managed to fight its way to the position of technological global market leader of the show laser industry. Today, LOBO electronic is synonymous with innovation and excellent technology, as evidenced by countless awards for design and technology.
One half of the 25 employees are engineers and technicians, with seventy percent working in development and production. The tour through the laboratory and studio was a look behind the curtain: Working on a laser show is incredibly complex and labor-intensive.
The level of know-how, mastery of complex technology and detailed skill, paired with the right mixture of sound and design required for even the shortest sequences was demonstrated exemplary by a graphic designer with a short excerpt from the storyboard. Additionally, the realization of this single image showed the great importance of the perfect combination of light and sound effects required for sensational effects. On top of that, the complex overall picture requires uncompromisingly exact synchronization.
The shows are designed for all kinds of events. Be it for indoor or outdoor events, in arts, culture or the industry, the white containers with blue lettering often provide for unforgettable moments. All show components are produced in house: projection surfaces such as water screens (a highly innovative proprietary development of LOBO), fog and wind effects, multivision elements and, of course, sound.
An experience that can hardly be described with words. The enthusiasm was huge after the WJ were presented with the millennium laser show for Berlin as a premiere audience in the in-house studio. When colorful beams of light will flicker above the Brandenburg Gate on New Year’s Eve, the Juniors will once again have been ahead of time. As an extra and encore, we experienced dreams of light. Look out when the floor starts shaking and wind effects roar. Take care – the fascination of light control technology, sound and color diversity is addictive! Dreams of Light.
