In the Embassy Suites of the Orlando Lake Buena Vista Resort in Orlando (Florida), the ILDA Awards 2019, considered by experts to be the “Oscars of the Laser Show Industry” and the most objective benchmark in show design, were handed out among 193 submissions. For 33 years, the International Laser Display Association (ILDA), now boasting 169 members, has been the association of the world’s most influential laser show companies. This year, LOBO managed to achieve top spots four times. With now 171 awards, the Aalen-based company continues to expand its convincing lead in ILDA’s all-time world rankings in front of all other members. LOBO also was the only participant to achieve two first places, one of them in the new category “Beams/Atmospheric Show with Outboard Effects”, in which LOBO even achieved two awards: first place for the show “Tecnoids” and second place for the show “Humanity”. Of particular note with “Technoids” is the creative use of effect and deflection mirrors, contributing to a rhythmic interplay of laser and music.“Humanity“ is characterized especially by a harmonic balance of a hectic rush and periods of gentle calmness, underpinned effectively by laser beam, the jury argued. In the category “Laser Photography”, the responsible Creative Director Matthias Müller-Quernheim secured first place for “Power Plant” and second place for “Liquid Light” (pictured) for his company. The atmospheric focus on the subject of the flower made of light as well as the powerful execution of laser beams flowing into the frame like a liquid were captured perfectly and managed to convince the jury of LOBO's creative efforts twofold. Further awards for well-known companies from the German nightlife were secured by Kvant with a triumph and a third place in the category „Educated Film/TV&Video“, a second place in the category „Innovative and Fine Art Laser Applications“ as well as a third place in the category „Planetarium Show“. Showtacle triumphed in the category “Fenning Technical Achievement (General)” with “Fiesta for MAC”. Additionally, Michal Pokluda from Showtacle placed third in the category “Live Laser Jockey Performance”. In the category “Fenning Award for Technical Achievement”, all three award were won by the University of Bonn for developments in the field of ILDA Digital Network (IDN).
