With a total of 7 projects in Germany and abroad, LOBO electronic was at the forefront of the realization of large millennium events. Practically the entire world – represented by 65 TV stations – watched on as LOBO staged a gigantic laser projection in front of the Brandenburg Gate during the New Year’s Eve mega party in Berlin. “Chronology”, as the spectacle was named, took the spectators on Pariser Platz on a fast-paced journey through 10,000 years of human history. Following a three-dimensional beam spectacle to the specifically composed Berlin anthem, the countdown to the year 2000 served as the finale furioso.
Change of location: Deutsches Eck, Koblenz. Since dusk, an extensive bundle of beams had been hovering above the event location, connecting the city’s most famous buildings. Shortly before midnight, the masses gathered on the banks of the Rhine gazed spellbound at the rock below Ehrenbreitstein Castle on the other side of the river. The laser specialists from Aalen used this natural backdrop as projection surface for the countdown to the year 2000.
Less than 150 km away in Trier, the oldest city in Germany, it wasn't a mountain, but rather the world-famous Porta Nigra that served as a projection screen for the leap into the third millennium. Tens of thousands fell into each other’s arms when the laser projected a “2000” onto the gate.
What stands out: All three events were built on one and the same show concept and were presented in parallel. LOBO’s Art Director, who was responsible for the „Chronology“ Project: „It was a tremendously fascinating feeling to know that a synchronized laser show was taking place at various locations around the country and that practically the whole world could watch it”
Outside of the „Chronology“ project, LOBO’s millennium projection onto Table Mountain in Cape Town caused a stir even months before the turn of the year. Also under LOBO’s direction: A rave into the next millennium in Hong Kong and a millennium open-air in Austria. Even after the turn of the year, there is no end in sight for the millennium hype: Under the leadership of Thüringer Multimedia from Suhl, LOBO technology is touring through 11 German cities as a “Millennium Symphony”.
