With this award, among insiders also called the "Oscar" of the show laser industry, fellow competitors honor the best laser shows of the year. The ILDA Award is regarded as the only established competition for excellence in laser show design. Usually, the ILDA Awards of the US-based global umbrella association of the show laser industry (International Laser Display Association) are handed out in a ceremony at the end of the annual ILDA conference.
But last year, everything was different. Due to the events of 11 September, the conference was cancelled on short notice and the ceremony was held via the internet in form of a webcast. The 150 member companies from all around the world were watching on their computer screens guessing who would get the desired trophies this year.
The astonishing result: 17 of 44 awards, which is one third of all prices, went to Europe. Less surprising for insiders was the fact that the manufacturer and show producer LOBO, based in Southern German Aalen, received for the third year in running more prices than any other company, including first-price awards in four of the thirteen categories. Among them not only all categories for beam shows, but also awards for the most hotly contested categories in the field of graphics. In addition to a fair show for Musikmesse in Frankfurt, a laser show on the industry location Eastern Wurttemberg, presented at the state representation in Berlin, was awarded as Indoor Laser Show of the Year.
